Week 7- #16

Wikis

This exercise was about "wikis." The very popular site wikipedia is an example of a wiki. Many students try to use wikipedia as a resource when doing research on assignments. Using this site as a source is not accepted by most teachers/ professors because this site can have very inacurate information since mostly anyone can edit/ add information to the site. I only recently found out that you can do this. Honestly, I didn't know the truth about wikipedia since I was not familiar with wikis.

I liked this exercise.

Week 6- #15

Perspectives on Web 2.0

This exercise asked us to read a few of the perspectives on the Libraries and how they are changing and will continue to change in the future. Most of these, I found, are more useful for Librarians to read. I am not a librarian. What I got from reading these perspectives was that, just as anything else is required to adapt to technological changes, so are the libraries. Libraries need to keep up with the demand for more updated ways of learning. People will soon demand things such as podcasts, e-books, and various other items. I read:

Away from the “icebergs”,
Into a new world of librarianship, and To a temporary place in time....

life without music...

is just not worth living...

hehe a little cheezy but i just wanted to test this blog using flickr.

Week 6- #13

Tagging and discover del.icio.us

still working on it...

K, well call me old-fashioned but I like my current way or organizing my bookmarks. I use the Yahoo Bookmark tool. If I'm away from my computer then I can just go to MyYahoo and I can easily access whatever bookmarks I have saved. Maybe it's because I'm used to doing things a certain way or whatever it is; I like this way and I will keeping doing it this way.

Sooo, I don't like the del.icio.us thing either. Sorry.

Week 6- #14

Technorati

I went to the Technorati page and took a look around. To be honest, I don't really like reading other people's blogs unless I know them. I don't really care what people have to say (most of the time)...unless I'm doing research on something...Anyway, I can see how it would be useful for people to look up blogs by using this page. I can see the benefit, but frankly, I dont think I will be using it.

Week 5- #12

Rollyo

I explored Rollyo and I was not very impressed at first. I didn't see what could be so great about this site. As I continued to browse around, I realized what the purpose of searching here is. When you search for something on a typical browser, it gives you a gazillion hits on what might or might not give you what you are looking for. When you search on Rollyo, you can choose a specific subject on where you want your answers to come from. There was one Ask Mr. Fix It! that caught my attention. I think I will be using this one when I'm looking for a tip on repairs around the house.

I did register but am still wondering on which links might be helpful to others.

Week 5- #11

Web 2.0 Awards list sites

So for this exercise we were suppose to explore some websites from the Web 2.0 Awards List. I wasn't sure what to search for so I just started clicking around and see what would catch my attention. I went to Lists and Polls out of curiousity and the site that I liked the best was quimble.com. At this site you can post any question that you'd like and see what people have to say about it. Very simple. So if there's something that you have been wondering about, just register and ask away.
